Scripture: Micah 6:1-8
Message: What’s the Deal?
Pastor Randy Raak
The passage ends with the familiar quote calling us “To act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” What many people don’t realize is that the language used here in Hebrew is for a “breach of contract” lawsuit between Israel and God. Israel has alleged that God did not keep up his end of their covenant. The passage begins then with Micah speaking as God’s representative or attorney in vs 1-2; God’s response in vs 3-5; then Israel’s response in vs 6-7 is again trying to reduce their relationship with God to a business contract; and finally with Micah the attorney calling them in vs 8 to truly live with authenticity as God’s people.
A question for us to think about this week, is whether or not there are ways in which we try to reduce our relationship with God to less than what he calls it to be? And what does it truly mean to live as his people?
